GENERAL RULES FOR HPS COMPETITIONS 2007 20081) Photographic image(s) must be the work of the author and must originate from a camera. 2) Photographic image(s) may be trade-processed 3) Images must NOT bear a competitors name. 4) Slides must be mounted & correctly spotted. The spot to be in the bottom left hand corner when the slide is viewed the right way up and from the correct way round. Slides other than 2" X 2" may be entered if the author provides a suitable projector at the time of the competition . 5) All photographic images submitted must have titles. 6) Competition entry dates are published annually & will be announced at meetings. Late entries will not be accepted. 7) All print competition entries must be mounted, maximum and preferred mount size is 20"X16". (NB The YPU rules require mounts to be this size for entries to their competitions) Minimum print size allowed is 7" X 5" on a minimum mount size of 10" X 8". 8) In Trophy competitions the judge will be asked to award a winner, highly commended and as many commended as he/she thinks fitting. 9) In Photographer of the Year Competitions judges will award a winning entry for which a Certificate will be awarded. The highest mark of each competitor in the three rounds will be added together . The competitor with highest total marks in the three rounds of the competiton at the end of the year, will be deemed Photographer of the Year". 10) Images can be submitted to only one HPS competition, except that one image used in a POTY comp. may be used in each non-POTY comp. 11) The judge's decision is final. 12) All trophies must be returned to the Society upon request. 13) External exhibitions & external competitions will not be governed by these rules. 14) The primary image must not be more than 5 years old at the time of entry. 15) All competitions must have a minimum of 3 entrants. 16) Competitors are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these rules . Entries not in accord with the spirit of the rules may be disqualified at the discretion of the Competition Secretary. 17) Monochrome images include the following: Black and white images and Black and white images toned entirely in a single colour. 18) Colour includes all images except those listed in rule 17 above including images modified by partial toning or the addition of a single colour 19) Digitally projected images should be in jpg format. The preferred maximum resolution is 1024 pix wide x 768 pix high. Annual Trophy Competitions. THE THOMPSON ROSE BOWL TROPHY Best monochrome print. Maximum entry 3 prints per entrant. THE HARNETT TROPHY Best colour print. Maximum entry 3 prints per entrant. KENNETH MOORE TROPHY. Best slide. Maximum entry 3 slides per entrant. FEARNLEY SHIELD Best projected digital image . Maximum entry 3 per entrant. Photographer of the Year Competitions (POTY) Throughout the year a series of photographic competitions will be held. Slides, prints, colour or monochrome, will compete with projected images in the same competition. The maximum entry per author per round will be 3, which can be print, slide, digital image or any combination thereof . Entries will not be eligible for any other competitions, except that one image may be used in each non-POTY comp that has previously been used in a POTY comp. One of the three POTY competitions will have the subject Age and Decay. The other two POTY competitions are open subject rounds. Entries for the set subject competition must be the authors interpretation of the set subject, but any entry in dispute will be decided upon by the Competition Secretary. Judges will be appointed for each round and marks will be out of 20. The competitor with the highest total mark, taking the score of their best entry in each of any the three of the club Photographer of the Year competitions will be awarded the: HERBERT MORRIS TROPHY and the accolade of PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR. In the event of a tie, this tie to be resolved by adding the second best mark in each of the three rounds of those who have tied. If there is still a tie this will be resolved taking the third best mark in all three rounds. Trophies will also be presented to the best beginner in each competition. ALL ENTRIES TO ALL COMPETITIONS MUST BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE SOCIETY FOR ANY CLUB BATTLES OR EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS. |
